Gompertz Law

According to the Gompertz Law of human mortality, every 8 years, our probability of dying doubles. Looking at the mortality tables from CDC, it means there's about 69% chance I wont live to be 115. Hmmm.

23 miles

Rode the bike yesterday all the way to Mt. Vernon. Started late, I didnt bring energy bars with me hoping I'll make it to the Mt. Vernon gift shop on time to have a snack. Unfortunately, got there just when they were closing. Riding back to Old Town Alexandria hungry was hard. I was hoping to ride again today but it was just too humid.

8 lives

8 years ago today I was in a car accident. Driving back to DC from Southwest Va early morning, the driver side rear-wheel of the car exploded. This caused the car to spin in the middle of I-81. I figured I'll be okay if the big truck behind me will stop on time after the car stop spinning. The car continued to spin towards the shoulder/earth embankment...then it rolled a couple of times. The car was totalled. The only space that was not crushed was the bubble around me. I was hanging upside down with the seatbelt the only thing that kept me from falling. If I had passengers, they would most likely be dead. I walked out of that accident with just a minor cut in one of my fingers and muscle pain for a week. Sometimes you get lucky, really lucky.

Clubby

Impulse buying. Bought two new golf clubs today. One 3-wood, one 5-wood. I dont expect that these new additions will improve my game (if you can call it that) at all.

Traveler

In the past two months I've traveled back to Asia three times. I might go back again in a month. I'm getting used to traveling business class and a couple of times was lucky to be in first class. It's bad, now I'm not used to the space they give you in economy.

Last month I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a few days in Tokyo. What an interesting city. Had great fun meeting up with friends and just getting lost in the city's maze. I've been back for almost two weeks now and still have not riden my bike nor visited the driving range. This weekend is not looking promising in terms of chance of doing something outdoors. It's going to rain. Maybe it's a good time to check out the museums...maybe.

Seasons

I used to long for the coming of spring and hope that every year, it will come early so I can start wearing shorts on the weekends and ride my bike on the trail again. Since I started fooling around with snowboarding, now I secretly wish for a longer winter season with lots of snow days!
